Internet Marketing Terms
This glossary of internet marketing terms is essential reading to help you navigate
the swamp. Let me know if there's a term that isn't covered here.
Article Sites: A place to write and find articles on specific topics. Article sites are a great
place to find free content for a website. The author allows and encourages people to use their content as long as you keep the authors name and
link in the article. Writing articles is a great way to get links back to your site. Articles also tend to show up high in search results. Links
back from article sites will contribute to raising the Page Rank of your site as well.
Article Marketing: Posting articles to article sites to promote a product or website. Bum
Marketing is a good strategy for this.
Autoresponder: A software program that automatically sends out an
email or series of emails. These are commonly used when someone signs up for a newsletter or course or expresses interest in a product. The two
main companies that provide this service are Aweber.com and getresponse.com. The service costs around $20 a month and allows you to set up
multiple campaigns and to broadcast newsletters and updates to your list of subscribers. It also manages sign ups by sending them an email to
confirm their subscription. This is known as double opt-in.
Conversion Rates: Number of people who buy something out of the
number of people who looked at it. This applies to email offers. PPC clickthroughs to a sales page, etc.
Forum: A place where a community of people gather to read and post
messages about a specific topic. These can be great places to learn about internet marketing. Creating a signature with your website and posting
to the forum will generate traffic to your website.
List: A list of subscribers to your
newsletter. Building up a targeted list can give you a place to market offers to. If you get a bunch of people to sign up for your "golf clubs"
newsletter you know that recommending a related product to that list will generally result in a few sales.
OTO / One Time
Offer: This is an offer that is presented to the customer after they buy the main product. Also know as a "back end sale". The customer
is told that they will only see this offer once and never have a chance to buy it again. This is often used as an "upsell" to make money on free
signups or low cost ebooks.
PLR = Private Label Rights. These are products that when purchased give the purchaser the right
to rewrite them and use them in any way they like. These are generally ebooks but may also be software that could be rebranded.
PPC: Pay Per Click advertizing. These are the paid ads that come up
on the side in the major search engines.
PR / Page Rank: Googles system of ranking the importance of a particular web page. This ranges
from 0 to 9 with 9 being the highest you can get. Getting a higher page rank will help your site show up higher in search engine
results.
Sales Page: The generally hype filled web page promoting the product.
SIG: Forum signature. You should
usually put your website or an affiliate offer in here. A catch phrase works well too.
Testimonials: Short blurbs about how wonderful a product is. These are an essential part of any
sales page. Writing testimonials can also be a great way to get links back to your own page. Especially if it's for a popular product.
Upload: Using an FTP program to transfer files from your computer
to your website. I recommend filezilla.
WSO = Warrior Special Offer. This is a product that is offered in
the WSO area of the Warrior's forum. The Warriors forum is one of the main hangouts for internet marketers.
