The Profitmart Experiment

I’m going to start this project by laying out my main objectives.

1. Find a niche to promote
2. Create a Profitmart site around that niche
3. Drive traffic to the site
4. Make money!

But before I get right into that I want to take a quick look at some of the technical issues that I’m going to run into. If this was just a hosting account I could pretty much create whatever I want, but I want to do this in a way that someone without a lot of technical chops can recreate using the tools provided.

I’m planning to create a site that focuses on a very tight niche. Most likely this will be a short writeup with a bunch of listings from either Ebay, Amazon or both. If I end up with a product that works for Clickbank as well then I will include them but only if there’s something appropriate.

I did some experimenting with the admin interface last night and I discovered a couple of things. Amazon, Ebay and Clickbank listings all work off either the “category” selected or the “clickbank keywords”. Pretty much what you would expect. What that means is that if you pick the “remedies” category you are going to get a very broad selection of products. This is going to be way too broad to focus on a niche. If you use the “clickbank keywords” area you can target more specific keywords (ie: “sore throat cure”).  The catch with this is that you can’t make your default homepage one of these clickbank keywords. I will have to use a direct URL to send people to that page. No biggie, that will give me a chance to explore some methods of redirecting.

I can see right off the bat that I don’t have the ability to directly edit the html for the side panels. This going to limit me to the options the admin panel provides. I can show clickbank and keywords on the left panel and I can show Adsense and / or Amazon on the right panel. I also have the option to leave these panels blank if I want to just focus on the center panel. Not an ideal situation but I can work with it.
