Day 29: IMHO - Profitmart Site Critiques
Today I’m going to offer up reviews of a number of Profitmart sites. Is yours one of them?
I’ve been looking through random Profitmart sites and I’ve found some interesting things.
- A lot of people haven’t even configured their site yet. I go to the site and I’m in their admin panel.
- A lot of people haven’t bothered to change the default title from “site title here”
- Most of the sites I looked at have minimal content (if any) and just turned on all the checkboxes hoping for the best.
- About 50% of the sites promote Profitmart as their main focus.
- There are very few sites that promote something other than internet marketing.
For the following reviews I have included sites picked randomly from the Profitmart directory and sites from some of the more active Profitmart forum members.
http://www.adreamenterprises.com - A nice site dedicated to Mona’s dad who died of cancer. Good header graphic and a pleasing background. The links are focused on the niche and the ads are relevant. My main suggestion would be to get the eye catching headline above the fold (so scrolling down isn’t required). This could be done either by moving it to the top or possibly by making the site wider to compress it vertically.
http://www.southernparadiseportal.com - Nice clean site. Awesome header graphic. Good job focusing on the main default niche. I would lose all the clickbank links that they haven’t added custom content for.
http://www.bigaffiliatemoney.com - Big catchy headline draws you in and makes you want to read more. It should be a brighter color like red. The title they currently have should be the subtitle and the domain name should be the main title. There are a lot of great custom link pages but none of them have any content.
http://www.sheilasultani.com - Breaks out of the mold nicely. Some color choices are pleasing but much of the text is very difficult to read because it is too similar to the background color. The animated space buttons are very cool but you need to click on them twice for some reason to get them to work. I think it might be because the mouseover event isn’t available until you click inside the flash area. When they do work it’s hard to tell because the main page is down so low. There is a lot of empty space in the header area that could be trimmed down to allow the main panel to be higher.
http://www.profitguideonline.com - This is San Wong’s site. San is the guy who got me into Profitmart in the first place. I met him online through a local internet marketing meetup group and we got together to chat about the biz. Our first phone conversation lasted a couple of hours until my wife came in and asked me if she should be worried that I was spending so much time talking to “some guy I met on the internet”. San is the guy to talk to if you want to make money in day trading. The only thing I’m going to say about his site is please visit it and and watch the great cartoon.
http://www.freetoolook.com - Focuses on one thing which is good. “Collectable antiques”. Unfortunately the page names that are driving the ebay feeds are way too broad. Changing the link names to something more specific like “antique chinese jewelry” would result in a better ebay search. Better yet they could use the technique I outlined in day 6.
http://www.firstforextrade.com - Sounds promising. At least they picked a niche. Unfortunately there is nothing beyond the title of the site about forex. For some reason the ebay products on the main page include a lot of erotic massage …
http://www.thegrimoiregreenwitch.com - Love the site name. The headline says “welcome”? Another site with nothing on it.
http://www.onlineexpressmart.com - Site headline is “Solutions for a better golf game”. For some crazy reason the products on this page are actually half decent even though they are the standard feeds. Maybe “golf” just works out that way. Against all my better judgement I think this site is actually passable. The interesting thing here is that all they have done is put in some custom category links. Other than that this is about as bare bones as a Profitmart site can get. The main thing I would suggest is to change the headline to match the name of the domain.
http://www.123webwork.com - This is Rita’s site that I had mentioned in an earlier post. Very nicely layed out with a good header graphic. What I really like about this site is that it has a unique approach and a structure for the blueprints it presents. I think the text on the main page is far too long though. I would prefer to see a short summary of the site’s concept that sits above the fold (so you can see it completely without scrolling down).
http://www.multihb.org - You gotta love Aatos. Here is a guy who is very honest and passionate about his internet business. His site is very eye-catching and has some nice looking graphics on it. He experiments a lot and has tried many variations on the main site. My main suggestion would be to put less stuff in the header area so the main page rides higher. Check out his “personal corner” for a great picture and bio.
http://www.startmakingmoney2007.com - This is the site of 1dave, probably the most prolific poster in the Profitmart forum. I like that he has different sections on the main page. There doesn’t seem to be any main focus to the site. He is promoting a lot of different things and some of the links on the side look like they are just stuck in there (letsee1 for example). The site title is “Profits Daily” which doesn’t match the domain name. The text on the buttons is too close to the background color of the buttons which makes them hard to read. Having more contrast would help (ie: make the text white with just a hint of green or yellow). I have to give Dave credit though. He is really out there trying a lot of things. Passion and determination are most of the battle.
http://www.profitmarthelp.com - This is probably my favorite Profitmart site. Dave is either a wizard with CSS or he has abandoned the default Profitmart index.php file and written his own. The site is clean and simple. There is an attractive header graphic that matches the domain. The message of the site is consistent and he is serving up quality content to a very well defined niche. Bravo. The only thing he is missing is a link to my Blog. :8^)
http://www.affiliatemarketingfeat.com - Marsh’s site is using a very standard Profitmart layout yet it manages to look clean and well presented. The main secret here is a nice header graphic that emphasizes the domain name.
http://yourfreesiteoffer.com - Nice attempt at a header graphic but it just doesn’t work. It’s better to keep it simple and readable then to put in a gradient that makes it difficult to read the text. Another case of needing more contrast between the text and the background color. What I do like about this site is the borders around the boxes and that Anthony has turned off all the unrelated clickbank links. He has also turned off the adsense and Amazon which makes the presentation cleaner.
http://thesourceishere.com - Seth is another prolific contributor to the Profitmart forum. A guy who knows the value of karma. His site is clean and has a clear purpose. A nice header graphic, video and Amazon products that actually compliment his topic. I like the horizontally placed links at the top and bottom of the site. It’s interesting to note that buttons may look better (sometimes) but text links are much more search engine friendly and can look almost as good when presented well.
Take a few moments and check these sites out. Sorry if I didn’t get to yours but there are over 1300 profitmart sites! You can browse all of them through your affiliate login (where you see commissions).
Tomorrow is the last day of this blog. It will be a review of Profitmart as a whole and includes a juicy letter to Ron and Rick. See you there.
cheers,
mike
