The Profitmart Experiment

Take a look around the internet. There’s a range of website design from slick high end professional looking sites to sites that are a scrambled illegible mess of ads, links and gaudy flashing graphics. Which sites to you prefer to look at? Which ones make you feel invited? Which sites would you trust with your credit card?

Where does your Profitmart site fit into that range?

Maybe I’m just a design snob but I have seen very few Profitmart sites that are pleasing to the eye and inviting. Hey, I’m the first one to admit that my site looks like crap too. Most Profitmart members are not web designers. They want a simple turnkey solution where they can flip a switch and make some money.

Does an attractive site really matter?

• A well organized, simple, clear, professional presentation will help people to trust your message.
• An amateur looking, messy site covered with as many banners as you can fit in will bounce them like flubber.

What can you do to make your site look more professional?

Profitmart hasn’t provided us with a lot to work with. The sites are easy to run and you can flip switches to turn stuff on and off but you have no way to change the overall look of your site easily. There are no plug-in graphics or themes like we see in Wordpress. Does that mean we are stuck with sites that look like crap?

Here are a few simple things you can do to make your site look more professional:

• Don’t use a different colored background behind your text. It looks awful. Honest.
• Find a decent header graphic for the top of your site.
• Pick a niche and focus on it. That’s the only type of content you need on there.
• Turn off all the clickbank products except the ones that fit your niche or that you have actual content for.
• Use easy to read headlines and spend time making them perfect.
• Don’t clutter your site up with a million banners.
• Keep your main content above the fold. If you force people to scroll down to see what they expected they won’t bother.

Tomorrow I’m going to do a critique of random Profitmart sites. Good and bad. (IMHO)
