Day 21: Social Bookmarking

Today I’m going to do some social bookmarking of my Profitmart site to give it a boost in the search rankings. Social bookmarking services like digg, Blinklist, deli.cio.us, etc allow you to create virtual “bookmarks” for your favorite sites. You can access these bookmarks from any computer and other people can see them as well. Bookmarking a site will help it to show up in the search rankings and sometimes even skyrocket you to the top of the listings. Having more people bookmark a site will make it rise even faster. Usually it’s the bookmark itself that will show up high in the rankings.

I use a free website at http://www.onlywire.com to speed up the bookmarking process. It’s a mass bookmarking tool that adds your bookmark to a bunch of sites at once. You need to have accounts at all the various sites but they have quick shortcuts you can use to speed up the signup process.

I do the rest of the bookmarking sites manually. For a list of social bookmarking sites check my resource page.

Update on the Article submission

I haven’t heard back from ezinearticles.com yet on the approval status of my article. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get it up. Then I can bookmark it as well as my Profitmart site. I should be submitting it to more sites next to get maximum exposure. The way to really be successful with this type of campaign is to write one article a day for 30 days and submit it to a ton of article sites. You’re pretty much assured to show up in the search results if you do that and it will last for quite a while as well.

Update on the Google campaign

I haven’t gotten any sales yet and my costs are adding up. I’ve spent about $71 so far for a measly 108 clicks with no sales. I’m going to pause it after today. I’m sure it’s possible to make money in this niche but in order to go the adwords route I need to have a very competitive offer and website.

There are a number of things that I could do to improve this PPC campaign:

  • Send people directly to the sales page for SitStayFetch. That would mean losing my bonus offers but I should do at least as well as the other people who are doing that. It’s a proven sales page that works.
  • Slick up my bonus offer page. To do this properly I should just have a simple sales page for the one offer. It would focus on my bonus products, do a bit of a pre-sell for SitStayFetch and then pass them on to the SitStayFetch sales page. I could do this on the Profitmart page but I think I would have better results just doing a separate page with nothing else on it. Writing some kick ass copy would help too.
  • Optimize my ad to put the keyword SitStayFetch in the title and at least once in the body of the ad. This will help my quality score and probably lower my bid price. To get the bonus offers into my ad I needed to sacrifice this type of optimization.
  • Add a bunch of long tail keywords such as “dog training vancouver”, “get my dog to sit”, “how to train my dog”, etc. Keywords like this only get a few searches a month but if you add a ton of them it can add up to the same number of clicks as the high volume terms like “dog training”. Personally I don’t care much for this strategy. I prefer bidding directly on the product name whenever possible. I figure that by the time someone is searching for the product directly they have done their research and you’re more likely to get someone ready to buy then someone just looking around. Hey - it’s worked for me in other areas.
  • Try some different PPC services. There are lots of other place to place PPC ads. Google just happens to be the biggest and most well established. Other ones would have less traffic but they may be less saturated and cheaper. Then again maybe not since it’s such a crowded niche.

I don’t think I’m going to bother doing any of that. I’m not making enough headway with PPC for this campaign. Everybody and his dog (pun intended) is going that route so I’m better off to find another way in. I’m going to keep moving forward with the second part of my plan to get into the natural search results.
