Day 11: Disguising the Profitmart Domain
Before I get this Profitmart Google ad up and running I need a better domain name to send people to. I’m going to register a domain with an URL redirection service so I can work around the fact that my site is called workathomejobs4me.com.
I browsed around and found a couple of these services. The trick is you want to find one that doesn’t put ads on your site.
Here are the sites I was looking at:
- http://www.free-url-redirection.com.ru - has reviews of a number of free URL redirection services
- http://shorturl.com - a good selection of domain names you can be a subdomain on
- http://www.freedomain.co.nr - the highest rated one. Also has a nice short domain name
I decided to go with www.freedomain.co.nr. That would make my domain something like “dogtraining.co.nr”. Sending people to that site would redirect them to my Profitmart site.
“Dogtraining.co.nr” wasn’t available so I used “dog-training.co.nr”. The steps are pretty straightforward so I’m not going to bother with a tutorial. They require a link back to their site so you need to copy and paste the link code onto your main page. I put it in the footer. It creates a little “button” ad. It also “masks” the domain so that all the pages on my site look like “dog-training.co.nr” in the address bar.
There is one tricky part though. You have to pass an english test. Here’s one of the questions:

One thing I wasn’t sure of was whether it would work with the subpages like
http://www.workathomejobs4me.com/index.php?search=Sit%20Stay%20Fetch
but that seems OK as well. I just put them in as
http://www.dog-training.co.nr/ndex.php?search=Sit%20Stay%20Fetch
and they work fine. Good stuff. I still don’t know for sure if this will cause any issues with Google. I did some research and it sounds like it should be ok.
Next up is the Pay Per Click ad.
